BNI Treatment Center doctors and therapists provide each teen with an initial evaluation to determine their unique and specific needs. Based on that information we will create a personalized therapeutic treatment plan. Treatment plans are re-assessed as the teen progresses throughout treatment.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

BNI Treatment Centers is a full-service provider of mental health and dual diagnosis treatment for adolescents ages 12-17. The partial hospitalization program (PHP) is designed to provide the highest level of outpatient care. PHP can also be utilized as a step down program after residential treatment. The PHP is the perfect solution for teens in need of psychological support for the following:

What is a PHP for adolescents?

A PHP for teens, also referred to as a day program, is a treatment program that offers the highest level of support and structure within an outpatient setting. Adolescents spend 2-3 weeks in PHP and learn emotional regulation, stress reduction techniques and new coping skills as they recover from a mental health and/or substance use issue.

The initial 10-day PHP includes these treatment elements:

Involvement
The PHP requires 5-6 days of participation per week for six hours per day, or 30-36 hours per week of programming. The teenager’s PHP schedule is based upon their unique treatment needs.
Academic support
Teens will participate in school for two hours per day while enrolled in the PHP. An assigned tutor works closely with the teen’s school academic counselor to develop weekly lesson plans.
Two individual psychotherapy sessions per week
Individual therapy sessions are tailored to the adolescent’s specific diagnosis and recovery needs. Evidence-based therapies include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, solution focused therapy, and integrated body psychotherapy.
One family therapy session or parent coach session per week
Integrating the teen’s family into the PHP programming is vital. Family members are able to provide support for the teen by participating in therapy sessions and family support group each week.
Group therapy sessions
Teenagers enjoy working in groups where they can relate to and bond with their peers. Group therapy may take different forms, including DBT group, process group, and positive psychology commitment group.
Case management
A case manager is assigned to coordinate the teen’s treatment needs based on their customized care plan. Case management also schedules appointments with service providers and oversees medication.
Discharge planning
Unless the teen is stepping down to an IOP, their parents will be advised to schedule follow-up appointments with a doctor and outpatient therapist.
